NEXT Uddannelse København and Hexagon: Bridging Education with Industry Innovation
NEXT Uddannelse København is a forward-thinking educational institution offering gymnasie-, eux-, vocational, 10th-grade and adult education across various locations in Greater Copenhagen- As part of their strategy to provide relevant, practical learning, NEXT recently hosted its second Digital Twin Focus Week, partnering with Hexagon to explore real-world applications of HxGN SDx® solution.
Bringing NEXT’s Vision to Life Through Digital Twins
NEXT aims to support students’ varied talents and motivate them toward meaningful youth education pathways. The Digital Twin Focus Week aligned perfectly with that mission, offering hands-on industry exposure and enhancing the experimental, authentic learning culture that NEXT values.
“We’re learning what a digital twin is. Hexagon’s software showed us how it can monitor an entire factory, not just store documents.”
The week offered students from various technical design and EUX programs a fresh perspective on how their skills fit into industrial processes.
“It gave me a solid understanding of what a digital twin can do and where I might fit in.”
From Tutorials to Real-World Roles
Students spent time exploring the software through guided tutorials, learning how to adapt their 3D models to live systems and incorporate data dynamically:
“We learned how our 3D models can be adapted to work with live data, which adds a completely new dimension to our designs.”
They also identified opportunities to elevate the experience further—like setting up models and virtual sensors themselves:
“It would be great to simulate inserting our models into the system and adding sensor data. That would show us our future role.”
This illustrates the benefit of experiential learning: NEXT students gain insight and a clear idea of how their practical skills could make them ready for future industry demands.
Preparing for Future-Ready Careers
By learning to use industry-standard tools early on, students gain an edge:
“Mastering tools that reduce errors and improve efficiency doesn’t just prepare us — it makes us more adaptable and valuable.”
Although current projects at NEXT don’t fully integrate HxGN SDx, the potential is clear:
“If we built our earlier projects with this integration in mind, the benefits would be massive. It could transform our experience from insightful to deeply relevant.”
NEXT + Hexagon: A Strategic Partnership
Hexagon’s contribution—lecture, software access and real-world demonstrations—has given NEXT students and educators concrete exposure to how advanced technologies are changing engineering workflows:
“It gives us a benchmark for where industry is heading... seeing this in action helps NEXT bring its curriculum in step with real-world demands.”
This collaborative Focus Week supports NEXT’s mission to prepare students not just for the current industry, but for future demands, too:
“Once we align our education with these technologies more deeply, we won’t just understand what a digital twin is—we’ll be ready to build and maintain them.”
Looking Ahead
NEXT Uddannelse København’s ongoing partnership with Hexagon charts a promising course toward a hands-on, future-oriented educational model. By connecting curriculum to real-world tools and workflows, NEXT educates and empowers its students to step confidently into tomorrow’s technical challenges.
